The Hong Kong Transport Department launched a landmark pilot program in the fourth quarter of 2025 to test the new generation of AI photosensitive parking meters.

The pilot project will be carried out in areas with high demand for parking spaces and high illegal occupancy rates for two months. The new generation of parking meters are equipped with advanced sensors that can detect the occupancy of parking spaces in real time and synchronize the data to the backend management system. The application of this technology will greatly improve the management efficiency and utilization rate of parking spaces, providing citizens with a more convenient parking experience.
The Transport Department said that this pilot program is an important step in the development of smart parking in Hong Kong. In the future, it will further promote the smart parking meter system based on the pilot results to create a more efficient and intelligent parking environment.
